During the last sermon, we treated a topic on "Fear of the unknown" to get us cautioned against being entangled due to fear and worries of life, about what is to come and to teach us how to stand in terms of tribulations because there are many that has fallen due to fear of the unknown and finally got themselves trapped. Fear is a very great tool in the hand of the devil because he knows that when is being engaged the target will be confused and even God won’t be able to work through them at His best. 

Preamble:

This week, we shall be looking at the topic “Feeding the Spirits” to learn and understand how the two spirits of man can be fed to mobilize power which will therefore determines a man’s actions or empowerment. The spiritual controls the physical and therefore, a man that is spiritually alive is more or less, an armored combatant, who is very conscious and ready for battle at all times, for to be carnally minded is death but to be spiritually minded is life and peace [Romans 8: 6]. Please sit back and enjoy this great lecture that will change your life forever.

Introduction:

Our topic may look or sound so irrational because spirits are not meant to be fed as they cannot be hungry as humans do but usually they do have desires to satisfy their urge which then becomes their food [John 6: 27 NIV] and like you know, a healthy fed man is a man of strength. To be constantly fed with healthy food shows a continuous proof of healthy growth and stamina. This is also synonymous to spiritual principles and growth, and like I said above, exactly the way you feed your body for nourishment that is the way you will be feeding your spirit with spiritual foods for it to remain active, lively and empowered. 

God is the apex source of every spiritual food except carnal desire which feeds the flesh but He needs your total cooperation through adequate spiritual practice to help your spirit man nourish and develop appropriately [James 4: 6-8]. The bible [Genesis 2: 7] made us understand that God created man from the dust of the ground where the devil had been dwelling and taking lordship [John 12: 31], and breathe life into them and man becames a living soul. This therefore proves that man comprises of three major distinct features which are: body, soul and spirit, out of which the body which becomes their flesh was corruptible by reason of the indwelling nature of the devil and the inevitable submissiveness to him [devil] due to the broken covenant between man and God, of partaking of the tree of knowledge of good and of evil [Genesis 2: 16-17] and by this justification, the body which is the flesh so desire that which is of the devil [carnal things] and which is contrary to that of the spirit of God that lives within us and which God has breath into us [Galatians 5: 17].

The scripture above [Galatians 5: 17] tell us that “for the flesh desire what is contrary to the spirit and the spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other so that you are not to whatever you want”. This therefore shows that in every man, there is always two contrary desires which tend to satisfy the urge for the two contrary spirits, that is, the spirit of God and of the devil and these desire becomes the food to feed the two spirits in other to mobilize power individually and respectively.

The flesh which is of carnal mind desires all the sweet things of life in the area of fornication and adultery, lust, pride, drunkenness, wealth, idolatry and so many others [Galatians 5: 19-21] and does not get satisfied and so can never please God, neither does he submit to God law [Romans 8: 6-8]. This is why the spirit of God in you and your flesh will always be in constant battle over your soul so as not to do the things you want but every man is at his own liberty to decide who to feed out of these two contrary spirits fighting over his soul, as God has created us with the power of freewill which makes us god on our own to fully exercise our decision and judgment over every matters of life, so as to be responsible for our deed [Proverb 16: 9]. 

Our bible text [Romans 8: 5-8] made us understand that “those who live according to the flesh have their mind set on what the flesh desire but those who live in accordance with the spirit have their mind set on what the spirit desire. The mind govern by the flesh is death but the mind govern by the spirit is life and peace. The mind govern by the flesh is hostile to God, it does not submit to God’s law nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God”. 

Now we see from all the above justification that man usually have two contrary desires over their soul which comes from God and the devil and that we also have the ability to decide and choose who to obey out of these two spirits so that we will be fully responsible for our action [Galatians 6: 7-8], even the devil cannot make a decision for you [Proverb 16: 9], he can only lure you to making a decision through inner voice or friends and family, because God is going to judge every man according to their action or deed [Revelation 22: 12]. Let’s now look at various ways through which man can feed the flesh or spirit to mobilize and develop power and have control over his soul which will therefore determine his action or deed:

Feeding the flesh:  [Galatians 5: 19-22, Ephesians 4: 22-24]

Like I said above, the body which becomes the flesh of man and which is corruptible with carnal desires to satisfy the lordship of the devil [Ephesians 4: 22-24] and his major earthly business of stealing, killing and destroying [John 10: 10] is always in serious contention over your soul in other to determine and take charge of your actions and decisions. When the devil take charge of your soul he does what he want with it and believe me, one of his three major business of stealing, killing and destroying must be occurring to the individual as he can never escape it. Trust me!!!

The scripture [Galatians 5: 19-21 NIV] above tell us that “the act of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery, idolatry and witchcraft, hatred, discord, jealousy, fit of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy, drunkenness, orgies and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God”. 

This therefore, made us understand that those who are living like this are only feeding their flesh through carnal desire to satisfy the devil and his lordship but the scripture above [Romans 8: 5-8] made us understand that the mind govern by flesh is death while the mind govern by the spirit is life and peace. So beloved, I will admonish you to always live by the spirit of God which is in you and whom you have receive from God your creator so you will be able to mortify the deed of the flesh [Colossians 3: 5] and I pray for you reading this sermon that the lord by His mightiness will quench every foundational thirst in you for carnal desire so you will not be satisfying the desire of the devil and his cohort in Jesus name.

Furthermore, the easiest way through which the devil takes lordship of your soul is through fornication and adultery [1 Corinthians 6: 16], wrong marriage [Deuteronomy 7: 3-4], idolatry [Exodus 20: 5-6] and too much dependent on man [Jeremiah 17: 5, Romans 6: 16-18], you can read the past sermons for more detail on this, the lord bless you as you obey. The product of the above when the devil has taken hold of your soul is found in [Galatians 5: 19-21] which will read earlier and this will be the manifestation of the demonic anointing to which the devil had imparted them with, in other to be using them to execute his major business of stealing, killing and destroying [John 10: 10] either knowingly or unknowingly, and as you know that a man that is deeply involved in all these devilish act stated above will have their spirit greatly contaminated and becomes a spiritual demonic wolves that could even be hiding under sheep’s clothing [Matthew 7: 15].   

One important thing to note is that the flesh will not stop fighting you through contending with your desire to take charge of your soul and determine your actions [Galatians 5: 17] and so you must be prepare for a sustained continuous fight with the devil which will always come through the flesh but bearing in mind that you are already a conqueror because our lord Jesus Christ, had conquered him and gave you the authority over him and so you will need to cooperate with Him [Jesus Christ] for your victory at all time because without Him [Jesus Christ] you can do nothing. Even Jesus Christ, acknowledged this in the book of [John 16: 33] that “you will have tribulation in the world but take heart I have overcome the world.

To sustainably overcome the devil is to constantly mortify the deed of the flesh by putting under subjection all of its carnal desire bearing in mind that the same flesh is you, that is, your body and since your body is still active and alive, it will not stop craving for carnal things of the world not until you die but if you allow the spirit of God in you to grow through God’s word and knowledge then it will help you suppress the flesh with its desire because you won’t be able to do it without Him [Jesus] by His words and that is the practical truth [Colossian 3: 5].

Feeding the spirit: [John 6: 27, Galatians 5: 22-24, Romans 8: 5-6]

The scripture above [Genesis 2: 7] tell us that God created man from the dust of the ground and breathe life into them and man became a living being. The life which God had breathe into them became His spirit within man and God has also given man the power and authority to take charge of him, feeding him with nourishment through the words of God and adequate spiritual practice to help him develop and mobilize adequate spiritual strength when needed.

Like I said above, the spirit of God in you is a property which God has kept in your hand to take charge of it through nourishment by His world and adequate spiritual practice so he can help you tap power continuously from God to conquer your flesh which is your greatest enemy and equally carry you to succeeds in all endeavor of life, except this, your salvation will only be a game. To constantly feed the spirit of God in you require your adequate knowledge of God through His words and encounter as this is the only assurance to spiritual growth knowing fully well that your spirit picks after your natural desire of life. The encounter will bring about your true confession of Jesus Christ and thereby deepens your faith more in Him and if a believer has got no encounter with Jesus Christ then his salvation is questionable. The bible says those that knows their God shall do exploit [] and these are the encounter that you will constantly be experiencing in Christ, infact, encounter will be your food and babies as a dear son to God. 

Our bible text [John 6: 27] says that “do not work for food that spoils but for food that endures to eternal life which the son of man will give you. For on Him God the father has placed His seal of approval”

Having fed the spirit of God in you through His word, the manifestation of such healthy and nourished spirit will not be too farfetched as this will be noticeable even in the individual through love, kindness, and faithfulness.

The scripture above [Galatians 5: 22-26] tell us that “but the fruits of the spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such thing there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passion and desires. Since we live by the spirit. Let us not becomes conceited, provoking and envying each other”

The above tell us the product of every nourished, healthy spirit which should be a life pleasing to God but what you should know is that you cannot live up to this by chance but by the spirit of God whom you have fed adequately through the word of God and encounter to deepen your faith. And so, beloved I will implore you to always strive, as a matter of urgency to live up to this even as you work towards feeding your spirit man to help you attain this. I pray that the God who is sufficient in all power, the I am that I am, will grant you the grace to this effect in Jesus name.

Conclusion:

Now that you have realized that every man has two contrary desire which comes from two contrary spirit, that is, God and the devil, through the flesh and the spirit of God in you and that your spirit picks after your natural desire which means if you decide to follow your flesh, the end is destruction but if you decide to submit yourself to God so you can appropriately feed the spirit of God whom you have receive from Him, then the end is life and peace. So which desire are you obeying as I have set before thee life and death but I will strongly advise you to choose life through the spirit of God by His words and live. 

So many spiritual complications come into a man’s life when he begin to obey the flesh and this is the root of all evil, the root of miserable life and also the root of generational poverty. Knowing fully well that the flesh will not stop fighting you through carnal desire, not until you die but your ability to constantly put under total subjection the deed of the flesh will be your profound success in this regard. So beloved, what are you doing. Why not check your life where its fall within all these. May the lord grant you the grace to do that in Jesus name. 

Confession: 

If you have not accepted Jesus Christ as your lord and saviour and you are convinced that you need him to come into your life so you can also tap into the grace available through shedding of his blood, and equally partake of the effectiveness of his wrath and the blessing that comes with it, and that you are sure, you are ready to repent from all those sin of fornication, adultery, lying, sexual immorality, pride, jealousy, hatred, idolatry, selfish ambition, witchcraft, impurity and debauchery, dissensions, envy, drunkenness, orgies and the likes, then locate a quiet place, be sober and be on your knees, and make this little confession but remember to be sure of what you are doing, so that you will not be using God to play, when you respect him and give him honour, he will also honour you in the sight of men (Matthew 6: 6).

Lord Jesus, i come with total humbleness of heart to ask for forgiveness of my sins and accept you as my lord and saviour, please forgive me of all my sin (you can begin to name them if you know them) I surrender my life to you and i want you to come and take full charge over my life and i accept you as my lord and my saviour, please cleanse me with your blood that you shed on the cross and make me a new man leaving old things behind, I promise to serve you and do your will at all time and i ask for the strength to carry on. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for saving me.
