In our last sermon, we deliberated on a topic 'The devil's partner’ to explore the  mysterious works and devises of the devil, so you can know him better and avoid him smartly (Matthew 10: 16) and equally know that, in as much as, the devil  has a role to play in every of your misfortune or misdeeds, you also  have a greater role in it (Proverb 16: 9) and this is why God will be judging every individual for their action (Revelation 22: 11-14, Obediah  1: 15). Preamble:

The heart of man is likened unto a house with which the entrance door is closed. The house is lock though but windows are wide open which gives passer-by the ability to peep into the happening of the building. 

In other words, though the access to the house lies in the bossom of the beholder but the happenings in the house could be above his control since the windows which need to be open for cross ventilation are still wide open and this forms the major criteria for the sustenance of the building because an unknown third party could peep into the building and devises ways to effect a change in the happening of the house, which is the heart. 

I pray that God gives you the grace to sustains and control the happening of your heart in Jesus name. Please sit back and enjoy this great lecture that will change your life forever.

Introduction:

Man was created with many distinctive feature out of which the heart is unique and inevitable above all others. It is a property of the subconscious and the engine room of every individual and as such the real man flow and emanate from it (Proverb 27: 19, Mark 7: 14-15, 20-23). Our Lord, Jesus Christ, affirmed to this as He speaks below in the book of Mark 7: 14-15.

Mark 7:14‭-‬15, 20-23 NLT reads:

(14-15) Then Jesus called to the crowd to come and hear. “All of you listen,” he said, “and try to understand.  It’s not what goes into your body that defiles you; you are defiled by what comes from your heart. (20-23) And then he added, “It is what comes from inside that defiles you.  For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder,  adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.  All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.”

Proverbs 27:19 NLT reads:

As a face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the real person.

Beloved, guiding your heart is one key major parameter to God's prosperity and destiny because It's embodies the ark of God through you that sustain the happening in your heart, which is the house as illustrated above, and which must be managed less it fall. It is also one of the greatest difficult and fragile task to manage and therefore, require God who is the king over all principalities to help control it (Proverbs 4:23, Proverb 27: 19, Matthew 5: . 

Proverbs 4:23 NLT version reads:

"Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life"

Proverbs 4:23 KJV version reads:

"Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life"

Matthew 5:8 NIV reads

"Blessed are the pure in heart,  for they will see God"

As we have read in the narration above under preamble, that the heart of man is like a house whose doors are close with which the keys lies in the bosom of the beholder but with open windows which could make it difficult to fully manage the happenings in the house, which is the heart, because when your windows are open, you may have an unknown third party that could be monitoring and equally capable of devising a means to effect a change in the happening of the house and of course, it will take God only who is the omnipresent and omnipotent to help manage such undaunted situation.

When God created man, He gave them a strict instruction not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and of evil, that if they do, they will surely die and taken out of His presence (Genesis 2: 17) but eventually man disobeyed God and they were taken out of God's presence and so, sin came into the heart of man and took dominion over them that it take God to help subdue its power in them and for this cause the heart of man has been corrupted and alienated from the true righteousness of God (Romans 6: 14).

Man in his disposition has been made to follow the desire of his spirit under the leadership of his soul bearing in mind also, that whatever you do physically could determine where your soul will be and which means if you glorify God with your earthly achievements and activities, then be rest assure that your soul is with Him (God), the only one who can help you manage guiding your heart appropriately (Psalm 62: 1). The soul of man is very paramont to where his heart will belong and this is why the devil fight for every souls within his reach so that his desire over such individual will not tarry.

Ever since the advent of the disastrous begining of the generation of man as we have read above where man had sold it authority to sin through disobedient to God's instructions, there had been a survivor of the fittest over the souls of man between the kingdom of God and that of the devil (Matthew 11: 12) since God had given man the authority over his deed by the reason of the power of freewill given to them (Genesis 1: 26, Proverb 16: 9) and which means they are free to choose and decide which way they are going in every occasion without anybody taking up that responsibility for them, not even the devil, so that they take full responsibility for their deed on the day of God's judgement (Revelation 22: 11-16).

Revelation 22:11‭-‬16 KJV reads:

"He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.  Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.  For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star"

Man has been given full authority over their deed and not even the devil can make a decision for them (John 10: 34, proverb 16: 9) but can only lure them to making decision of his desire and since the heart of man has been contaminated and corrupted from the begining through giving auhority to the devil who now has power over them because of sin, they have been made unpredictable before God and always having every tendency of drifting to the call of sinful desires by the flesh except those that have submitted their soul critically to Christ Jesus and have crucify the desire of the flesh, and for this reason, there is a serious drag or tussle over the decision making process especially when it involve a Godly glory to be manifested.

Our bible text Galatians 5:17‭-‬21 NIV reads:

"For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.  The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God"

The bible reading above made us understand that the spirit and the flesh, signifying the Godly and the ungodly, are always in conflict with each other over your soul, so that you will not do that which you want to do but if you are led of the spirit and have submitted your whole self to Jesus Christ, then you will not be bound by sin and it will not have authority over you. Beloved, this clearly shows that it is only if you are in Christ Jesus, that you will have power over sin and be able to guide your heart with all diligence as we have read above.

The heart of men is a tresure to God and likewise the devil for from it flows the issues of life and through it the real person is formed. The heart also could be very fragile and easily coveted through love and friendship as this is the simplest method engaged by the devil because love is emotional and which has to do with your subconscious (Proverb 27: 19).

The moment you love a thing or person with all your spirit, your heart has been sold out to that thing or person and if that thing or person is not of God or has a highly corrupted spirit or is an agent of the devil with much empowerment or power at his/her disposer, then he/she is at liberty to decide what to do with your heart and may not have any other choice than to win your soul for the devil since that is where he/she belong but if you have submitted your life and soul to Jesus Christ, then He will be the one to be incharge of your heart to help manage and guide it, so you don't fall victim of the devil and his spruceness. 

The heart of man is porous and easily tuned especially if he has more of corrupted once around him as friends or relatives and which he dearly love and for this reason the devil goes round like a roaring lion to feeds on the souls of men seeking whom he may devour and have his soul coveted (1 Peter 5: 8-11).

Even if your side is ok and you have taken cover under the shadow of our Lord Jesus Christ, what about the other end because there is always the other end for everything in life, partner in business, work, marriage, aggreement and so on, the devil most likely to visit them also and lure their heart  against you especially if they had not submitted their life totally to Christ or if they also have more corrupt people around them that they love and so, it is only God that can still help fight your battle at the other end to align their heart with you, though it may require a greater tussle but because the bible made us understand that "In the Lord ’s hand, the king’s heart is a stream of water that he channels toward all who pleases him" (Proverbs 21:1 NIV) and that is our assurance.

1 Peter 5:8‭-‬11 NIV reads:

"Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.  And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen"

Conclusion:

In a summary: 

1. We have been able to learn that the heart of man is porous because the happenings in his heart is also monitor by an unknown third party who is the devil, who could peep through the open window of the house, which is the heart, and can equally effect a change in the happening of the house, according to our illustration above and this make it impossible for every man to be able to guide is heart effectly except God be with him.

2. We have been able to learn that the heart of man is unpredictable because two major power, one of God and the other of the devil is contending over the soul of the individual and that there is more tendency for every individual to drift to the call of the devil through the flesh desire except the one that has critically submitted his whole self to God and even at that some minute value of the flesh desire will be acting because the individual is still actively in the flesh but our God is faithful and merciful.

3. We have also been told that "In the Lord ’s hand, the king’s heart is a stream of water that he channels toward all who please him" (Proverbs 21:1 NIV) and which means God only is the one that can turns a mans heart in whichever ways he pleases since he is their creator.

I will therefore admonish you to surrender your whole self to God, so as to trust God for the deed and decision of men.

Confession: 

  If you have not accepted Jesus Christ as your lord and saviour and you  are convinced that you need him to come into your life so you can also  tap into the grace available through shedding of his blood, and equally  partake of the effectiveness of his wrath and the blessing that comes  with it, and that you are sure, you are ready to repent from all those  sin of fornication, adultery, lying, sexual immorality, pride, jealousy,  hatred, idolatry, selfish ambition, witchcraft, impurity and  debauchery, dissensions, envy, drunkenness, orgies and the likes, then  locate a quiet place, be sober and be on your knees, and make this  little confession but remember to be sure of what you are doing, so that  you will not be using God to play, when you respect him and give him  honour, he will also honour you in the sight of men (Matthew 6: 6).

 Lord Jesus, i come with total humbleness of heart to ask for  forgiveness of my sins and accept you as my lord and saviour, please  forgive me of all my sin (you can begin to name them if you know them) I  surrender my life to you and i want you to come and take full charge  over my life and i accept you as my lord and my saviour, please cleanse  me with your blood that you shed on the cross and make me a new man  leaving old things behind, I promise to serve you and do your will at  all time and i ask for the strength to carry on. Thank you, Lord Jesus,  for saving me.
